Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has pardoned the Member of Parliament for Effiduase-Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, following recent misconduct that nearly triggered disciplinary action by the Privileges Committee.
The incident, which occurred during a heated sitting yesterday, saw Dr Afriyie clash with First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor after attempting to make a statement on the ongoing nurses’ strike without seeking prior approval. His actions were deemed disrespectful and unruly, leading to an order for his removal from the chamber.
Addressing the matter in Parliament today, Speaker Bagbin acknowledged the Effiduase-Asokore MP’s misconduct, faulting him for showing disrespect towards the Deputy Speaker who was presiding over proceedings.
While issuing a strong caution against such behaviour, the Speaker announced that no further disciplinary steps would be taken. Quoting biblical language, Bagbin said, “Go and sin no more,” effectively ending the matter and halting any referral to the Privileges Committee.
