Former captain of Ghana’s senior national football team, Stephen Appiah has been named Vice Chairman of the newly established Black Stars Management Committee.
This decision comes after the dissolution of the previous committee, led by Mark Addo, following the team’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed Dr. Randy Abbey as the new committee chair, with Appiah serving as the Vice Chairman.
Appiah, who led the Black Stars to their first World Cup appearance in 2006 and again in 2010, has previously served as the team manager after his retirement.
The newly formed committee also includes Samuel Aboabire, Chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Football Association and GFA Executive Council member, Richard Nsenkyire, President of FC Samartex 1996, as well as Moses Armah, President of Medeama Sporting Club.
Aboabire and Armah will be responsible for overseeing operations and matchday activities, while ensuring effective management of sponsor and partner interests.
This restructuring aims to enhance the Black Stars’ readiness for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The team, following a disappointing 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign, is now focusing on enhancing its performance, with crucial matches against Chad and Madagascar scheduled for March.
