Support Akufo-Addo and stop planting for delegates and jobs – Gabby

NPP stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has taken a thinly-veiled swipe at the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie-Akoto for allegedly meeting delegates in Kumasi over his presidential ambition.

In a Facebook post, Mr Otchere Darko asked Ministers in the Akufo-Addo government who have presidential ambitions to move out and pursue their dream or support President Akufo-Addo to succeed in his second term.

“If your focus, as a member of Akufo-Addo’s government, is to first fight for your own ambition and transformation, then, please, feel free to move over to move on,” Mr Otchere Darko wrote on his Facebook page.

Mr Otchere Darko’s post comes after reports emerged that Mr Afriyie Akoto during the weekend initiated a private meeting with some top-notch power brokers of the NPP in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to disclose to them his presidential ambition.

The weekend’s meeting in Kumasi where he allegedly disclosed his intention to the top-notch party members was reportedly held at his house at Danyame, near the Parks and Gardens.

But the Mr Afriyie Akoto has denied the reports in a statement released on Thursday.

The Minister for Food and Agriculture who failed to confirm or deny in his statement whether he will contest the presidency when nominations are opened said he was only in Kumasi to rest after he suffered from a fever after the reading of the budget.

“I decided to go to Kumasi and have some rest during the weekend and try to recover from a fever I was running after I attended the budget reading in parliament on Friday 12 March 2021. As a former member of parliament in the region and as a senior member of this government, I accepted to grant audience to some party executives who had been making calls for a meeting to discuss matters concerning the welfare of the party. However, such meetings will end with an amount given as transportation to guests who came from far and near.”
