The National Association of Graduates teachers (NAGRAT) has urged Education Minister, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum to suspend presentation of Free Senior High School (FSHS) bill to Parliament to allow for Broader consultation.
According to the association, teachers have been dedicating themselves wholeheartedly to their roles since the inception of the Free SHS program, demonstrating remarkable commitment and resilience.
In a statement, they stated that despite their unwavering efforts, they have not received the appropriate recognition and appreciation that their hard work deserves.
The association further added, the inconveniences that teachers have had to endure following the implementation of the Free SHS programs have been extensive and profound.
“The considerable changes and hurdles they have had to overcome in adapting to this new educational landscape have posed substantial challenges and demands on their professional roles and responsibilities.
“We insist that the government, in the spirit of mutual respect and acknowledgment of any legislation that may impact education, should postpone the proposed bill to parliament to facilitate extensive consultations.
“We urge parliament, particularly the specialized education committee, to oppose this bill. It is crucial that the committee thoroughly scrutinizes and ultimately rejects this proposed legislation in order to safeguard the interests of the education sector and the broader community.”
