President John Mahama is calling on young Ghanaians to leverage the government’s flagship One Million Coders program to transform the country’s technology workforce and economy.
Speaking during the launch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration’s much-touted initiative, the president was convinced the program will be a game changer on the labour front.
On the campaign trail last year, then-candidate Mahama and the NDC promised to roll out the One Million Coders program, an initiative aimed at equipping at least one million young people with digital and technology-related skills.
Identifying the youth as a cornerstone to the success of the program, President Mahama urged the youth to use it as a foundation to create wealth for themselves.
“To the youth of Ghana, I say this program is for you. Take it and own it. Let this be your launchpad to innovation, entrepreneurship and global relevance. Let this be a bridge to your dreams and the opportunities of the digital age.
“You’re not just participants in this initiative, you are the architect of Ghana’s digital future,” the president said.
President Mahama expressed appreciation to the country’s development partners for their support which he noted “accelerates our progress”.
He further called on further collaboration to make the government’s flagship initiative a success.
