Ghana Customs officials have intercepted a massive shipment of suspected illicit drugs concealed in two 40-foot containers at the Takoradi Port, following an intelligence-led operation at the Atlantic Terminal Services Limited terminal.
The operation began when frontline officers noticed unusual packaging patterns during routine inspections, prompting an immediate alert to management.

Acting swiftly, Sector Commander for Takoradi, Walter Blankson, placed the containers under strict surveillance to prevent tampering, before ordering a full unstuffing.
The inspection involved a multi-agency team including representatives from the Narcotics Control Commission, National Security, National Intelligence Bureau, the Food and Drugs Authority, and the declarant, Maxwell Boateng.

Authorities discovered an estimated 25 million tablets of suspected illicit Tapentadol and Timaking drugs hidden among cartons of ceiling fans, alongside thousands of undeclared electrical appliances.
The tablets have been seized, with samples sent to the Customs Chemist for laboratory analysis, while the remaining goods are being held at the State Warehouse in Takoradi pending further investigation.

Customs officials praised the operation as a testament to the vigilance of frontline officers and the importance of coordinated inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding Ghana’s borders and protecting public health.
