There is escalating tension in Kwahu in the Eastern Region following the abduction of Kwahu Abetifihene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, by armed men who later stripped him half naked before one Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, who claims to be Abrewatia of the Royal Family.

In a video that captured the incident, the Kwahu Abetifihene who was acting President of the Kwahu Traditional Council following the alleged destoolment of the Kwahuhene was seen being molested by the armed men while in his shorts seated on the floor before the Abrewatia.

Upon hearing about the incident angry youth of Abetifi besieged the house where the Abetifihene was being molested forcing the armed men to flee for their lives leaving the Abrewatia.

A video captured the Abrewatia being paraded naked on the streets by the angry youth.

The situation has heightened tension in Kwahu leading to the deployment of armed police and military.

According to the eyewitnesses, the Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, who claims to be the Abrewatia of the area, and a group of armed men she brought with her arrived in Abetifi Thursday afternoon when most of the residents had left for farms with the Kwahu Abetifihene alone in the palace.

Upon her arrival, they abducted the Kwahu Abetifihene who is also Adontenhene of the Kwahu Traditional area, handcuffed and molested him.

Later, a ritual was performed destooling him.

The ritual, which involved the sacrifice of a sheep, provoked anger among local youth, leading to clashes between them and the armed men who had escorted Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa.

The situation escalated with the arrival of law enforcement and military personnel to prevent violence.

To restore order, traditional leaders in Abetifi quickly reaffirmed Akyemfour Agyemang III as chief through their own rites, and he was returned to the main palace.

Amidst the unrest, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for the area arrived at the scene and played a central role in de-escalating the situation.

Meanwhile, the Abrewatia is in police custody for safety.

At present, while the community is still tense, efforts are ongoing to restore calm and prevent further violence. Dr. Acheampong is actively overseeing these efforts, with the situation closely monitored by local authorities.
