Ghana’s leading referee, Daniel Nii Laryea, has been appointed to officiate the highly anticipated Group match between Algeria and Burkina Faso at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Laryea, who boasts an impressive officiating record across the CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and the Ghana Premier League, will be making his third consecutive appearance at the AFCON finals, having previously officiated at the 2021 and 2023 tournaments.
Widely respected for his firm control of games and deep understanding of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) protocols, Laryea is regarded as one of Africa’s most dependable match officials.
The encounter is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. GMT kick-off at the Stade Prince Moulay in Hassan, Rabat. Algeria, captained by Riyad Mahrez, will be aiming to build on their opening victory, while Burkina Faso seeks to maintain momentum in the group.
Laryea’s appointment further underscores Ghana’s continued presence and influence in top-level continental football officiating.
