A horrific tragedy has struck Breman-Dunkwa in the Upper Denkyira East District of the Central Region, where a tricycle rider, identified as Yaw Afriyie, popularly known as Batman, allegedly set his wife and six children ablaze before taking his own life.
The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday, November 2, 2025, reportedly after a heated misunderstanding between Afriyie and his wife.
According to information gathered by GHOne TV’s Yaw Boagyan, Afriyie asked his wife to check on their children who were asleep.
Moments later, he is said to have poured petrol on her and the children, locked the door, and set the house on fire — trapping them inside.
After committing the heinous act, Afriyie reportedly went into a nearby bush, where he hanged himself.
Neighbours who heard the victims’ screams rushed to the scene but were unable to save them as the fire spread rapidly through the building.
Police officers and local authorities later arrived to retrieve the charred bodies, which have since been deposited at the Dunkwa-On-Offin Government Hospital for preservation and autopsy.
The police have commenced investigations to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
