The University of Education, Winneba, has been temporarily shut down following a directive by a High Court.
The registrar of the University, Dr. C.Y. Akwaa Mensah subsequently ordered that all the four campuses of the university, Winneba, Kumasi, Mampong and Ajumako be closed down until further notice.
The closure comes after the university was sued at the Winneba High Court in connection with a writ brought by Kofi Kwayera represented in court by Member of Parliament of Effutu Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markins challenging the legality of certain actions taken by the governing council of the university.
The Judge ruled that, the relives sought by the plaintiff should be upheld pending the determination of the case on Friday.
In line with the decision of the court, the members of the university community, comprising of UTAG executives, deans, Heads of department and representatives of senior members decided to shut down the university until, Friday when the substantive case is heard.
The decision to close down the university has risen as a result of implementing the Judges directives that the principal officers of the university be restrained from working until the final case is determined.
