The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced processes for the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho to be renamed the John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences (JEA Mills UHAS).
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the university’s newly constituted Governing Council held at the Ministry of Education on Wednesday, 28th May 2025.
According to the Minister, the renaming is a tribute to the late President John Evans Atta Mills for his pivotal role in the establishment of the university and his enduring commitment to health and education in Ghana.
“This renaming honours a visionary leader whose legacy continues to shape Ghana’s development,” the Minister stated.

Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Kodzo Gavua, welcomed the decision and pledged the Council’s full support in upholding the university’s mission of academic excellence and service to the nation.

JEA Mills UHAS continues to be one of Ghana’s premier institutions dedicated to training skilled health professionals to meet the healthcare needs of both the country and the wider subregion.
