The Ministry of Defence has airlifted 25-year-old Sandra Baafi Boateng from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra for further medical care, following months of critical condition.
Ms. Boateng has remained unconscious since sustaining injuries during a stampede at a military recruitment exercise in Kumasi on 12 November 2025.
The incident occurred when a large crowd of applicants surged toward the recruitment venue, leading to multiple injuries and raising serious concerns about crowd management and safety protocols at military recruitment events.

The transfer comes after medical teams at KATH reported no significant improvement in Ms. Boateng’s condition, prompting the decision to move her to a specialized facility in Accra.
The Ministry of Defence said the move aims to provide her with more advanced medical treatment to improve her chances of recovery.

Authorities have urged organizers of recruitment exercises to review safety measures to prevent similar tragedies, emphasizing the need for strict crowd control and emergency preparedness during high-demand enlistment drives.
