President John Dramani Mahama has announced the creation of a Presidential Council to provide political leadership for the Accra Reset initiative, a bold agenda aimed at reimagining global governance for health and development.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Mahama said the Council will comprise sitting and former heads of state from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and beyond.
The move, he explained, is designed to ensure that the Reset is anchored in action and accountability, not just dialogue.
“To keep this reset shaped, we must launched new global coalition, a partnership of the willing, the beginning of a durable club, a presidential council comprising of Heads of State and government from Africa, Asia, Latin America and beyond which will provide political leadership to this movement,” he said.

Alongside the Council, a high-level panel of experts drawn from health, finance, innovation, and business will supply research and evidence to shape reforms.
The Ghanaian leader stressed that the Reset comes at a time when the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are far off-track, underscoring the urgency for new governance models.
“The question is not simply what new targets should replace the SDGs, but how we design institutions and financing systems that can actually deliver,” he argued.
President Mahama outlined the Reset’s mission to guide the world in addressing critical challenges: how to govern in an era of permanent shocks, mobilize climate finance without sinking nations in debt, and harness sovereignty as a driver of value rather than a barrier to cooperation.
He emphasized that the Reset must become a durable global coalition—a “partnership of the willing”—capable of reshaping international development systems and delivering tangible benefits to vulnerable populations worldwide.
