The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), KNUST branch, has called for the removal of the Director-General and Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), citing incompetence and failure to uphold academic standards.
This move adds to a similar call previously made by the UTAG University of Ghana (UG) branch.
In a statement following an emergency meeting on January 26, UTAG-KNUST said GTEC has become a tool for personal vindictiveness and criticized the commission for deteriorating student-lecturer ratios and poorly maintained facilities.
The association also highlighted confusion over post-retirement contracts, which has left lecturers and campus finance directors uncertain about employment status and payroll.
UTAG-KNUST warned that these issues threaten industrial harmony and called on the presidency to intervene.
The association urged the GTEC Director-General and deputy to resign by January 31, 2026, or face further action from UTAG-KNUST.
