The Member of Parliament for the Ho Central Constituency, Benjamin Kormla Kpodo has cautioned the Ho Municipal Assembly’s Covid-19 task-force against brutalities as it enforces the mandatory wearing of nose masks in public places within the Municipality.
Mr. Kpodo, said the task-force must be tactful in enforcing the directive with a human face without inflicting brutalities on the people, while urging residents to continue to adhere to the safety protocols.
The MP made the comments when he presented 10,000 pieces of locally manufactured nose masks on Thursday 11 June, to be distributed to his constituents in support of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Municipal task-force which includes personnel from the police service, prisons and the military have- been deployed onto the principal streets of the Municipality since Tuesday, 9 June.
He noted that the deployment of the task-force onto the streets has inconvenienced many residents who are not able to buy the masks for themselves, thus the donation of the mask to support those people while they go out to undertake their respective economic activities in order to limit the spread of the disease.
He described the donation as a “rescue mission to empower my people to move about freely and fully protected with nose masks against COVID-19.”
Receiving the items, Dr. Senanu Kwesi Djokoto, the Volta Regional Deputy Director of Health in charge of Public Health, commended the MP for gesture, noting that it would improve situations in the Municipality, at a time the Municipality is leading with the highest case count in the Volta region.
He said, “one measure in curbing the spread of the virus the world over, was the use of nose masks and, key to its compliance is the availability of the nose masks; therefore, the donation was a very critical intervention.”
Dr. Djokoto cautioned that now that the Ho Municipality has become an epicenter, more action is needed to avoid the likely multiplication of cases.
Meanwhile, Thursday’s donation forms part a series of donations done by Mr. Kpodo since April this year.
Earlier donations by the MP included gallons of sanitizers, wash stations, nose masks and tissue papers to identifiable groups including market women, transport unions, the security services, government departments and agencies and the media to limit the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Municipality/Constituency.
While Volta’s case count has risen to 212, the region has recorded 3 deaths and a total of 37 recoveries from the deadly novel coronavirus.
So far, 15 districts/municipalities out of a total of 18 has recorded at least a case in the Volta region.
