The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has posed two critical questions to President Nana Akufo-Addo regarding the state of Ghana’s economy and the cedi’s depreciation against the US dollar.
Mahama recalled comments from the 2016 election campaign when the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo remarked that the exchange rate under President Kufuor’s tenure was 1 cedi to 1 dollar, while under the Mills-Mahama administration, it was 2 cedis to a dollar.
He then challenged the Mills-Mahama administration to announce their resignation dates.
Speaking at a mini rally in Lungni in the Wulensi constituency as part of his campaign tour in the Northern region, the former President challenged President Akufo-Addo to account for funds he previously claimed Ghana had.
He also questioned the current exchange rate, which currently stands at GHc17 to a dollar.
Mahama further urged Akufo-Addo to consider stepping down, asserting that his administration has not effectively tackled Ghana’s economic challenges.
“Bawumia and Nana Addo came with very sweet words and I asked Nana Addo one question when we were at Kpandai. I said, he said, we have money, but we are hungry. And so I’m giving him one question. Where is the money? And in Lungni, I’m going to add one more question. He is on video for saying that Kufuor’s time, one cedi, one dollar.
“Mahama and Mill’s time, two cedis, one dollar. And that if he were Mills and Mahama, he would resign. I’m asking him, today, one dollar, 17 CDs, when is he going to resign? He should tell the people of Ghana when he’s going to resign. And he should apologize to the people of Ghana for the hardship that he has subjected us to. And instead of going in peace with his vice president, he wants to force his vice president on the people of Ghana. And the main reason why he’s afraid to hand over to Mahama”, he stated.
