The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has seized the mobile phone of an invigilator at Armed Forces Senior High Technical School in Accra after discovering suspected solved questions from the ongoing WASSCE.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 25, during WAEC’s monitoring exercise led by its Public Relations Officer, John Kapi, as candidates sat for the Social Studies paper.
The invigilator, identified as Bright Amoah, a Visual Arts tutor at the school, allegedly had the device in violation of examination regulations.
According to WAEC, the phone contained answers to the Oral English and Picture Making papers, which had already been written. Though the papers were past, the Council suspects possible irregularities and has invited Amoah for questioning.
The Examination Centre Supervisor has also been directed to explain how an invigilator gained access to the exam hall with a phone, despite strict bans on such devices.
WAEC says the development forms part of its intensified crackdown on malpractice in this year’s WASSCE, which involves over 450,000 candidates nationwide.
