We shall hold NDC accountable like we did NPP – Dr. Susan

Movement for Change member Dr. Susan Adu Amankwah has noted that the incoming NDC government shall be held accountable, just as Ghanaians held the NPP administration to account.

She emphasized the need for transparency and responsiveness from the new government and has
cautioned President-elect John Mahama against excessive government spending and urged him to prioritize the concerns of the Ghanaian people over personal agendas during a panel discussion on GHOne TV with Lily Mohammed on Wednesday December 18, 2024

“But they [NDC] must prove it to us by cutting down on waste; we don’t want to see extravagant things; we don’t want to see spending on unnecessary things. Mahama shouldn’t come and force us with his private dreams and visions; none of that anymore,” she cautioned.

She expressed optimism that the NDC could enjoy a long period in power if they prioritized accountability and transparency.

She explained, “If they communicate with us properly, openly and frankly, and not talk down to us, we’ll continue to give them goodwill, but we’ll hold them accountable; there’s no way we’ll not hold them accountable.”

While commending the NDC’s proposed 120-day social contract, she warned against the indiscriminate removal of taxes.

“It’s okay for them [NDC] to come with their 120-day social contract. But they should be careful about the tax thing. There are some taxes that definitely must be removed; I mean we don’t know about them; what are they doing about the COVID tax? But there are certain taxes they need to look at and see whether they’ll reduce them, but to remove them altogether, they may find themselves in certain financial difficulties. So, a lot of thinking has to go into that, and what they need to do is to be very open with us and very frank with us, not coming to blame the previous government because we have had enough of that from the NPP, and we voted them out, but to come to us and say, ‘This is what it is; this is how we’re going to do it; and we’re going to be very open and transparent with you’,” Dr. Susan stated.
