“Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” Demo: Mahama’s selective justice eroding Ghana’s democracy – Nana B

NPP National Organiser Nana B has accused the Mahama-led government of weaponising state institutions and practising selective justice, warning that such abuse threatens Ghana’s democracy.

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, known popularly as Nana B, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of eroding Ghana’s democratic values through what he described as the deliberate weaponisation of state institutions against political opponents.

Speaking during the NPP’s “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna” demonstration in Accra on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, Nana B said the protest was not just a march but a direct message to the President about what he termed the government’s growing authoritarian tendencies.

“What we are seeking to achieve is to send a signal to President Mahama, to let him know that he was elected as president of the country to defend democracy. The level at which our democracy is descending is worrying. The fact that there is a change in government does not mean that you weaponise state institutions, orchestrate things against your opponents,” he said.

He alleged that the administration was practising selective justice in the application of the law, citing cases where government-aligned individuals accused of wrongdoing were allegedly shielded while opposition figures faced intimidation, arrests, and prolonged detention.

Nana B pointed to examples including alleged impersonation by a supposed fake doctor and disruptive actions by Ralph St Williams, insisting that both had gone unpunished.

In contrast, he said, NPP members such as Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe (Abronye DC) and Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) were being unfairly targeted.

“The selective justice that we are talking about is to the effect that, do we have a different set of laws for the NPP and other laws for the NDC?,” he added.

According to Nana B, the demonstration was a clear stand against what the NPP believes is political intimidation, harassment, and the silencing of dissent under the Mahama-led government.

Thousands of supporters stormed the Kwame Nkrumah Circle for the protest, which party leaders described as a fight to restore fairness, accountability, and true democracy.
