Elections: Sack Deputy Ashanti Reg. Police Commander – Yammin

Dr. Joseph Yammin, the National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has call the immediate dismissal of ACP/Mr. Stephen K. Kwakye, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander.

Dr. Yammin’s demand follows allegations that Kwakye was involved in distributing money to police officers to influence their votes in favor of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during the 2024 elections.

Speaking exclusively to Kojo Marfo on AbusuaNkommo at Abusua965FM, Yammin expressed deep concern over the alleged actions of Kwakye, which he believes not only undermine the integrity of the electoral process but also compromise the professional ethics of the police force.

“The Deputy Police Commander, an NPP member, was the one sharing NPP money at the police station,” Yammin revealed.

“He was the one the regional minister gave money to share among police officers so they would vote for Dr. Bawumia.”

Yammin emphasized the need for swift disciplinary action against Kwakye, arguing that his continued presence in his role demoralizes the police force and undermines efforts to restore public trust in the system.

He insisted“Why is he still at his post? He should have been sacked by now and sent home. When his family asks him why he was sacked, he will tell them on Election Day, I was sharing NPP’s money even though I wasn’t supposed to do that. But he’s still at his post”, Yammin cries out.

He added “He was demoralizing the police force by tagging some NDC members and threatening to transfer them, but today those he demoralized still see him in the office. We are joking; we should be hitting people and telling them what they did was wrong”.

The NDC National Organizer also highlighted the broader implications of such actions, warning that if left unchecked, they could erode the goodwill the public has towards the current administration.

He said “We need an opportunity to address certain individuals and streamline professional ethics and behavior”.

He then noted “Unfortunately, some of us may not get that chance. Those in positions of power today have a different perspective, but if we don’t take care as a party, the goodwill the people have given us may dwindle, and we may struggle.”

He urged the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene to take decisive action against those who have compromised their professional duties.

“We’ve entrusted power into the hands of Amoakohene, we should see them trying to do something.”

Yammin also reiterated that during the election, the NDC has been monitoring the activities of security officials and will hold them accountable if they engage in political activities contrary to their professional duties.

“People want to see individuals punished for their wrongdoings, and I told you we monitored everyone’s activities. We want to see the National Security and the BNI picking some people to answer questions about why they did ABCED”.
