The Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has announced that the agency is set to create 200,000 jobs within its first year.
Speaking on GHOne TV’s GHToday with Lily Mohammed, he outlined various sectors and initiatives through which the jobs will be generated.
“In the first year, we’re looking at close to 200,000 people from YEA alone. In the first year, we’re looking at solving the issue of unemployment, creating jobs for about 200,000 people from the Youth Employment Agency alone,” he said.
He emphasized that this projection excludes jobs from other government agencies such as the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), and the National Identification Authority (NIA).
According to Basintale, the YEA’s job creation strategy includes skilled training programs, direct employment, and models designed to generate indirect jobs. He highlighted some key initiatives under the plan:
• Community Policing Assistance – 15,000 jobs
• Youth in Immigration – 5,000 jobs
• Industrial Attachments – 7,000 job
• Brickworks Training under Community Service – 2,000 jobs
He noted that demand for skilled workers in brick construction has risen significantly, with a local brick manufacturing company reporting a backlog of orders stretching into 2026 due to labor shortages.
“They told us that they need a lot of staff. So we have infused under community service a proposal where at least in the first year, about 2,000 people should be trained from the informal sector in brickworks to bridge the gap between producers and customers,” Basintale explained.
He stressed that Ghana does not lack demand for jobs but rather faces a skills mismatch, which the YEA aims to address through targeted training and employment initiatives.
