Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, Deputy Spokesperson for former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) against actions she says are eroding public confidence in Ghana’s judicial system.
Speaking on The Verdict with Isaac Addae on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Dr. Amoakoh expressed concern over developments surrounding the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, warning that they create dangerous perceptions of political interference in the courts.
“Someone asked me recently, with everything happening, can anyone now go to court against a government appointee and expect justice? Even if that’s not true, that’s the perception you’re creating,” she said.
She added that such perceptions could discourage ordinary citizens from seeking justice.
“You’re making people feel that if you have an issue with someone powerful in the NDC and you go to court, you’re wasting your time because the structure has been meddled with,” Dr. Amoakoh noted.
Dr. Amoakoh urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and protect the integrity of democratic institutions.
“We may not have the numbers now, but the best we can do is wait until 2028 and trust that Ghanaians will give us the opportunity to right this wrong,” she said.
