The Head of Information of Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the UN and Ghana Consulate General in New York has appealed to Ghanaian Americans and people of African descent living abroad to return to Ghana with solutions to the country’s challenges.

Mr. Frederick Ameyaw made this appeal at an event organized by Ghanaian American Journal in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA, on March 1, 2019. The event, its second edition, is curated to bring together Ghanaian entrepreneurs and professionals as well as others with African descents, to network, explore and leverage their unique talents.

This year’s event was in honor of Ghana’s sixty second Independence Day Anniversary and the Year of Return.

Speaking at the event, Mr Ameyaw, explained why this year’s Independence Day Anniversary was to celebrate Peace and Unity. For 27 years the constitution of Ghana has not been disturbed or interrupted by any act of violence and the enskinment of Yaa-Naa, Abubakari Mahama II, Overlord of Dagbon,  and the end of the roadmap for peace in Dagbon are all testament to the peace and unity the country enjoys.

He also took the opportunity to mention some recent achievements of the government. The creation of six new regions and Ghana being the fastest growing economy in the world.

On the Year of Return, he espoused the essence of the declaration made by President Akufo-Addo on September 2018 at the National Press in Washington DC. The Year of Return is a year’s long planned event, this year, to commemorate 400 years since the first set of slaves were sent to Jamestown, Virginia, USA. It’s a year all people of African descent are being asked to return to Ghana for ancestral identity and a reminder that, slavery,  in all forms must cease.

“Please return home not just for the celebrations but with solutions,” Mr Ameyaw appealed. He revealed government has tackled lots of the country’s challenges and proffered solutions to some of its problems but there are more to be done to develop the country.
