Senior Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana-Legon, Dr. Asah Asante says unfulfilled promises by the flag bearer for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will affect his image and credibility.
This follows Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s latest promise that he will prioritize the construction of the Pwalugu Dam.
The cutting of sod for the project happened in 2019 with close to one billion cedis in funding which is expected to be executed by China Power, operators of Sinohydro.
However, nothing has been done on the project so far.
Commenting on the matter on Morning Starr with Francis Abban, the political science lecturer stated that the Vice President will have difficulty in convincing citizens to believe him.
“That is one of the difficult things Dr. Bawumia is likely to face with his campaign. The numerous promises he has made and the government has failed to fulfill them. Some of those promises need to be brought back as a new promise, the difficulty is that will, people accept them given their first experience and that is a daunting task for him.
“All these things impinge on his image and credibility as my Vice President and he has to make sure that he works on them. From all, in terms and purposes, he is a good man but that is different from the promises that you make and you failed to deliver that people will hold you to it,” Dr. Asante stated.
He continued: “On what basis would they trust this second statement that something you promised them, you cut sod and say it will happen and make noise about it and nothing happens. This time around how will people take it if you bring it as another promise? Is it not going to be a mere talk shop, that is a challenge in fact it is a difficult one.
According to him, the Vice President will struggle with his campaign “but I like his tenacity of purpose but he is going to struggle by his numerous promises that he made. Some of them remain unfulfilled and there is a need to make new promises and how will people take this.”
