Voting has officially begun in Accra today, Saturday, December 7, 2024, as Ghanaians head to the polls to decide their next president and parliamentary representatives.
However, the start of the election process in some parts of the Greater Accra Region has been marred by delays.
Polling stations opened at 7:00 AM across the region, but in areas such as the Nungua Anglican School, voters experienced a 40-minute delay before the process commenced.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Krowor, Joshua Nii Bortey, confirmed the delay and assured the public that efforts were being made to ensure the smooth running of the elections moving forward.
Despite these delays, voting in other areas, such as the Amasaman constituency, is proceeding smoothly.
At the Post Office 1 and 2 polling stations, where a total of 1,326 voters are expected, the process is progressing without any significant issues.
As the election unfolds, millions of eligible voters in Accra and across the country are casting their ballots in a highly anticipated election, closely watched by both local and international observers.
The Electoral Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a free and fair election, while security forces are on high alert to maintain peace and order throughout the process. By: Hamdia Mohammed
