Newly elected Ablekuma West MP Rev. Kweku Addo revealed that his recent campaign was primarily funded by friends and family.
Rev. Addo, a member of the NDC, achieved a historic victory in Ablekuma West, securing the seat for the first time for his party. He garnered 31,866 votes, defeating incumbent Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (NPP) who received 26,575 votes out of the total 58,441 valid votes.
In an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV on Thursday, December 19th, 2024, Rev. Addo disclosed his campaign spending. While he spent approximately $200,000 in the 2020 election, he received considerable in-kind support in 2024.
When asked if his 2024 spending might have exceeded $300,000-$400,000, considering the exchange rate, he responded: “It’s beyond; looking at the exchange rate, it’s possible. I spent some money, but at least this time around, some people helped me with motorbikes; I had people printing T-shirts for me; the cost of a T-shirt is around 30-40 cedis, so when somebody gives you a thousand pieces, that person has done you a great job.”
Rev. Addo expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed to his campaign.
