The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E. Myriam Montrat, has urged Ghanaians planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup to submit their visa applications early to avoid delays and complications.
Speaking to GHOne News during a media reception in Accra, H.E. Montrat highlighted the importance of using official channels for applications, warning against fraudulent third-party organisations promising guaranteed visas.
“My advice will be for people that are interested in attending the World Cup to ensure that they are putting in their visa application as early as possible,” she said. “There are lots of third-party organizations that will try to pretend they can make it easier or faster… that is simply not true. The best way is to go directly to the source.”
The 2026 World Cup, scheduled for June and July, will be hosted across Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The Canadian High Commission in Ghana is preparing to meet the anticipated demand.
H.E. Montrat emphasized that applications should be complete, including clear travel plans and proof of financial means to support oneself during the stay. She also stressed that obtaining a visa does not exempt travelers from adhering to the rules of immigration.
“I will urge everybody to apply, to respect the legislation, and to ensure that whatever it is that they’re going to do, that they actually do it and that they come back to Ghana,” she added.
The High Commissioner reiterated that respecting visa rules is crucial, as violations can lead to stricter controls affecting all applicants.
