Police in Cape Coast have set free the 25 people who were arrested in connection with the demonstration and subsequent demolishing of stalls being constructed by city authorities in Cape Coast.
The traders demolished the structure arguing that not only did the authorities at the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly fail to consult them on the ongoing construction but also that the project will increase the traffic situation at the central business district of Kotokoraba thereby impeding trading activities.
The said space,the traders argued, should be used for its original purpose of serving as a parking lot; a situation the city authorities disagree as they want to construct new shops to accommodate traders who could not get allocation in the newly constructed Kotokoraba market.
Police preliminary investigation could not established that the 25 were part of those who demolished the shops being constructed at Kotokoraba.
The ring leaders however have been told by the police to produce those who orchestrated the said demolition.
Starr News sources however reveal that the case may not proceed further as the metropolitan assembly has asked the police to drop the case against the rioters.
Some elders in the town, Starr News has learnt have intervened in the matter urging the Cape Coast Metro Assembly to choose dialogue in resolving the matter rather than resorting to prosecution .
Starr News’ investigation was confirmed by the ring leader of the traders Emmanuel Dossey who said the police issue has been dropped as they seek an amicable settlement at home .
