Staff across the HODA Holdings have held a lifesaving exercise to stock the National Blood Service Centres in two regions of the country.
The initiative themed “Gift of Life November” was held in Accra and Kumasi and saw more than 300 staff from companies including uniCredit Ghana, uniSecurities Ghana, uniPrecision Co., uniBank, Starlife Assurance, Star Assurance, Star Microinsurance, EIB Network, Alban Logistics Ltd, Telemedia Communications, TOPP Holdings Ltd, Integrated Properties, and the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
In all 155 staff successfully donated blood.
Ghana continues to face acute shortage of blood supply which leads to scores of preventable deaths during particular periods such as before and after the Yuletide season.
The National Blood Service who partnered with the Duffuor Foundation this year to undertake the “Gift of Life November” exercise indicates that only 1% of Ghana’s population is needed to donate blood regularly to stock the blood bank, yet even that number remains a huge challenge.
The blood donation exercise has been an annual initiative of uniBank’s Corporate Banking department since 2014. It is held under the auspices of the Duffuor Foundation on behalf of all the companies under the HODA Group.
