The Ghana Police Service says investigations have begun into the alleged assault of Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua, by her husband, Harold Norman.
The development follows the circulation of viral videos purportedly showing the alleged assaults involving the couple, which have drawn public attention.
In a statement, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) said it received a petition from Adobea on August 20, 2026, alleging that her husband had subjected her to physical, emotional and economic abuse.
The Police said preliminary investigations also established that a case involving the couple had previously been handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026.
Following the petition, Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations. The Police said a caution statement was obtained from him, and he was subsequently granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on August 29.
Norman was expected to appear before court on October 7, but his lawyer informed the Police that he had been admitted to hospital and was therefore unable to attend the scheduled proceedings.
The CID said DOVVSU investigators have since visited the hospital to verify the claim and are monitoring the situation.
“Investigators from DOVVSU have visited the said hospital to verify the claim and are monitoring the situation to ensure he is arraigned immediately upon discharge,” the Police stated.
The CID also said it is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to provide social welfare services for the victim and her children.
“The Criminal Investigation Department is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure the provision of social welfare services for the victim and the children,” the statement said.
The Police further assured the public of its commitment to handling the case professionally.
“The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints brought before the Service are investigated professionally and fairly,” it added.
