Adjena Senior High Technical School in Asuogyaman district in Eastern region lacks ICT laboratory and computers to facilitate teaching and learning of the subject.
The school with population of over 2000 students has only one desktop computer.
Due to the lack of computers, ICT practical’s have almost become as students swarm the only desktop computer in turns.
The situation is affecting students’ performance in the subject.
The sorry situation was revealed by the school authority during a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of three-unit chamber and hall self-contained apartment in Adjena Senior High Technical School by the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko.
The Executive Chairman of Edmat and sons Company constructing the teacher’s bungalow project, Edward Mawutor utterly shocked by the situation, promised to donate four (4) brand new laptops to the school within 48hours.
Spokesperson for the construction firm, Michael Kofi Oduro told the gathering of students, teachers and chiefs of Adjena-Tafoman that “the executive chairman is touched after knowing that the entire school has just one computer. We know that science and technology is the order of the day and it means that there is a major gap that needs to be filled. For this matter, he is promising that in the next 48hours he will deliver 4 brand new laptops for the school”.
True to his words, four Hp laptops were handed over to the school Tuesday May 30, 2023 less than the 48 hour promise.
The students could not hide their joy when receiving the laptops.
According to them, it will go a long way to enhance the learning of ICT in the school.
However, management of the school appealed to government and corporate bodies to support the school establish ICT laboratory for the school.
Adjena Senior High Technical School region was established by the Ghana Education service in 1979 as an experimental junior secondary school on the then Adjena united middle school premises.
The school was upgraded in September, 1984 into a fully-fledged secondary technical school.
Since its establishment the school has not received any major facelift.
The introduction of free Senior high school policy has worsened pressure on the limited facilities.
