The Ghana Police Service has arrested the driver of vehicle with registration number GW 402 V for his alleged reckless driving following a tip-off on Facebook.

The Police in a response via Facebook post said the suspect driver, Awal Mohammed, aged 31 has been arrested and charged for court for “Driving on the wrong side of the road, contrary to Regulation 106 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations (RTR) 2012 L.I 2180

“Careless and inconsiderate driving contrary to section 3 of Act 683/04 as amended by 761/08. Causing danger to other road users, contrary to section 22 of Act 683/04 as amended by 761/08 and causing road obstruction, contrary to Regulation 170 of the Road Traffic Regulation 2012, L.I 2180.”

The arrest was in connection with an earlier Facebook post on Tuesday, by one George Sarpong who drew the attention of the Ghana Police.

Narrating the incident, George Sarpong said the driver did the “reckless overtaking at Kwahu Fodoa at about 9:41 am.” on the Kwahu Fodoa road.

He described the situation as dangerous and could have “resulted in dire consequences for road users who were caught in this mess.”

“Dear Ghana Police Service, on my way to Accra (from Kumasi) on Thursday, December 30, 2021, this long vehicle with registration number GW 402 V, did this reckless overtaking at Kwahu Fodoa at about 9:41 am. The driver pushed oncoming vehicles off the road, a situation that would have resulted in dire consequences for road users who were caught in this mess”, George Sarpong posted.

The Police commended George Sarpong and further warned motorists to drive with care.

“The said driver was captured on video by a concerned citizen as he dangerously veered off his lane at a section of the road at Kwahu Foduah, and drove facing oncoming vehicles.

“We wish to commend the good Samaritan for volunteering information leading to the arrest. We wish to further caution motorists to drive with due care and attention at all times to avoid road traffic crashes.”
