Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on the ranks and file of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be united ahead of the 2024 elections.
Dr. Bawumia took first place at the New Patriotic Party’s Special Delegates Congress held to choose five candidates for the party’s presidential primary on November 4, 2023.
Kennedy Agyapong, a member of parliament for Assin Central, came in second with 14.15% of the total votes cast after the results from 16 of the country’s 17 polling places were tallied. The Vice President received 67.10% of the total votes cast.
With 10.85% of the total votes cast, former Trades Minister Alan Kyerematen placed third, and former Agriculture Minister Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto placed fourth.
Addressing the media at his residence, Vice President Bawumia indicated that unity is key every endeavor thereby calling on all the aspirants to eschew any act of disunity that will not help the chances of NPP winning the 2024 elections.
“I am very humbled and very grateful for this election but this is only the first step of winning the flagbearership of the party, so I know that there is work ahead,”
He further stated that “the main event is December 2024, and as we all work together we have to keep in mind that what we are working towards is a win in December 2024.
“This will require a lot of unity amongst ourselves and amongst all the flagbearer hopefuls. It is very important that as we go on this journey towards December 2024, we don’t have cracks in our ranks. We have to all work together and not destroy this very important unity that we have.”
