Vote for Bawumia to continue interchange, market complex projects in Takoradi — Miracles Aboagye

A lead spokesperson for the Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has urged constituents in the Takoradi Metropolis to vote for the NPP flagbearer in the upcoming elections, warning that two stalled major projects—the PTC Interchange and Market Circle redevelopment, could remain abandoned if the NPP does not win the upcoming polls.

Speaking on Radio 360 ‘s morning show dubbed “Y3nsom” with host Kwame Malcolm in Takoradi, Miracles Aboagye linked the projects’ completion directly to Dr. Bawumia’s fortunes in the upcoming polls, claiming, “If they don’t vote for Dr. Bawumia to come and complete these projects, they will be abandoned for another 12 years. The party that has a record of abandoning projects is the NDC.”

He further argued that the opposition NDC historically failed to continue projects initiated by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, adding; “That is why the people of Takoradi must vote for Dr. Bawumia.”

However, Dennis Miracles Aboagye’s comments have stirred mixed reactions in Takoradi. Many residents remain skeptical about the NPP’s commitment to the region, especially after President Nana Akufo-Addo recently assured that contractual challenges stalling the projects had been resolved. During a visit to the Western Region, Akufo-Addo promised that the PTC Interchange and Market Circle projects would be completed before his tenure on January 7th, 2025.

Virtually challenging the President’s promise when the host quizzed if he was not contradicting the President, Miracles Aboagye stated, “The projects were on hold for a while, and the President says the contractors are coming back. But within just 18 days, do you think the work will be done? We need someone like Dr. Bawumia, who believes in these projects, to ensure their continuity.”

The PTC Interchange project, which was commenced in August 2021 and slated for completion by July 2023, stalled in January 2023 due to Ghana’s IMF agreement, which required an end to barter arrangements. The project, financed under the Sinohydro Master Project Support Agreement with China and executed by Sinohydro Corporation, has left many residents disillusioned over Takoradi’s infrastructural development.
