Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase and candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed his deep gratitude to the people of Asawase following his victory in the 2024 parliamentary election.
Mubarak, who has now secured a sixth consecutive term as MP, described his victory as a demonstration of the trust and confidence the people of Asawase have in him.
Addressing the press, Mubarak emphasised that his continued success in representing the constituency is not the result of monetary influence but a reflection of his connection with the electorate.
Muntaka attributed his success to the people’s confidence in him, stating that it’s not easy to earn trust for such a long period.
He acknowledged the low voter turnout but emphasized his commitment to being law-abiding, awaiting the official declaration by the Electoral Commission.
Muntaka also accused his opponent from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of attempting to buy votes, claiming that the difference between him and the NPP candidate is at least 10,000 votes.
He expressed his pride in the people of Asawase for not being swayed by money, instead choosing to vote for the most decent and respected person.
He said, “I’m grateful to God and my people, they have made me proud again for electing me for the sixth consecutive time. It’s not easy for people to trust sin one person for this long like that. For them to have trusted me, it means they have put a lot of confidence in me and I need to work hard to testify this. I’m grateful to them I know the voter turnout was low, we didn’t get the number we expected but nevertheless, we are law abiding, I will not want to declare myself a winner, I know it’s only the EC that can declare the winner. But clearly I can tell you that the difference between me and the NPP candidate is at least 10000 votes. When I saw the NPP guy pouring money, I knew he was wasting his own time because I knew the people of Asawase. They were never willing to sell their votes to the highest bidder, they were always willing to give to the most decent person and the most respected one so you can never use money to ever think you can ever be a Member of Parliament in Asawase.”
