Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu has refuted allegations of state-sponsored attacks on some journalists in some parts of the country by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
President of the GJA, Albert Kwabena Dwumfou at a press briefing disclosed seven (7) reported cases of attacks on journalists and rebuked the John Mahama lead administration over the rising number of cases without accountability for perpetrators.
Responding to the GJA’s criticism at the presidency, Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that it is unfair to hold President Mahama and the government responsible for attacks on journalists.
According to him, the President cannot be blamed for isolated incidents of attacks on journalists, stressing that law enforcement agencies should address such matters rather than attributing them to the government.
He also indicated that, neither President Mahama nor the government has sponsored any reprisal attacks on journalists carrying out their duties while emphasizing that, the government is open to criticism from the media.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Government Communications is expected to engage with the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for further discussions on the matter and other relevant topics concerning media rights, safety and freedom.
