The High Court of Justice, Industrial and Labour Division 2 in Accra, has granted an interlocutory injunction restraining the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) and its affiliates from continuing with what the court described as an “illegal strike.”
In a ruling signed by Justice Priscilla Dikro Ofori, the court ordered that the GRNMA, including its executives, officers, members, agents, servants, and employees, be immediately restrained from carrying out the said industrial action. The order followed a motion filed by the National Labour Commission (NLC) on June 5, 2025.
The motion was supported by an affidavit from Martin Didemudo of Suhum in the Eastern Region and presented by counsel Alexander Owusu Jnr., Esq., on behalf of the Plaintiff/Applicant, the NLC.
The injunction takes effect immediately and will remain in force for ten (10) days. The court further directed that upon the expiration of this period, the application may be repeated on notice to the Respondent.
The ruling comes amid growing tensions between the NLC and GRNMA over unresolved labour disputes. The decision serves as a legal measure to prevent disruption of healthcare services while the matter is being addressed through due process.
