Wholesome Mind Launches GHS4m Campaign to Build Ghana’s First psychiatric ICU

VINT & Aletheia Attorneys and Consultants, through its mental health CSR platform, The Wholesome Mind has launched a major campaign to revolutionize mental healthcare in Ghana.

The firm is spearheading a nationwide and international fundraising initiative to convert the Special Ward of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital into Ghana’s first-ever Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

The project aims to raise GHS 4 million to transform the existing facility into a safe, dignified, and therapeutic space for individuals in acute psychiatric crisis.

The PICU is envisioned as a critical intervention for patients requiring intensive mental health support, filling a longstanding gap in Ghana’s mental health infrastructure.

The 2025 campaign builds on the momentum of last year’s Wholesome Mind Summit, which focused on mental health in the workplace.

This year, under the theme “Mental Health in Our Community: Children and Adults,” the Wholesome Mind Xperience 2025 is set for October 11.

The event will feature expert-led sessions, wellness activities, and community engagements, all geared toward promoting mental wellness and resilience across all ages. More importantly, it will serve as the official launchpad for the PICU project.

VINT & Aletheia has already contributed seed funding to the initiative and is calling on corporate organizations, philanthropic groups, development partners, and the Ghanaian diaspora to join the mission.

The project is being implemented with the support of key partners: KPMG as the accountability partner, CalBank PLC managing the official fund account, Keen Developers leading construction works, Ark Properties providing architectural consulting, and ExpressPay also enabling global donations.

Speaking on the project, a firm spokesperson emphasized the need for collective responsibility saying, “This is more than a donation drive—it is a shared responsibility. Together, we can build a Ghana where mental health is not only discussed but resourced and defended.”
