The immediate past Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ledzokuku, Mordecai Abusuayedom Quarshie, has expressed confidence that Ghanaians will come to appreciate President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s legacy in the years ahead, despite his current unpopularity.
Speaking on The Verdict Show with Isaac Addae on Starr 103.5 FM on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Mr Quarshie argued that posterity would be kind to former President Akufo-Addo, even if present sentiments are not favourable.
“He had to fight very, very hard, and part of the negatives of that struggle is what we are seeing now,” Mr Quarshie said. “Nana Addo, in my opinion, posterity would be kind to him.”
He explained that the challenges faced by Akufo-Addo’s administration have temporarily clouded public perception, but with time, Ghanaians will be able to assess the achievements of his government more objectively.
“Right now is the nausea time. The throwing up has happened. By a year or two, when Ghanaians can now compare and weigh, they might find there are certain things about Nana Addo’s government,” he said.
Using a vivid metaphor, he added: “After the nausea ends, the food you didn’t like might look good again.”
Mr Quarshie pointed out that even historical figures once harshly judged have seen public sentiment shift over time. He cited the late General Acheampong as an example of how perspectives evolve.
“You hear comments about him and you wonder if it’s the same guy who was tied to a stake and shot,” he remarked.

The former MCE urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to focus on unity, self-reflection, and service to humanity as they rebuild for the future.
“We want to serve people, we want to deliver. Serve humanity, very important,” he stressed.
He also noted that just like President John Mahama, who made a comeback after public rejection, the NPP can revive its fortunes if it reconnects with the people.
