As anticipation builds for the 31st Ghana Football Association (GFA) Ordinary Congress, set for Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram, the GFA’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has offered key insights into the agenda and direction of Ghana football.

Speaking on a special edition of Starr FM’s Sports Digest, Asante Twum revealed that the GFA Executive Council (EXCO) has approved several new regulatory measures aimed at reshaping football governance and development in the country.

Among the major changes is the introduction of a Standard Player Contract Regulation, which includes a minimum wage provision for players in the Ghana Premier League. “There is going to be an introduction of a minimum wage as part of the new standard player regulation approved by the GFA EXCO,” he stated.

He also announced two additional regulatory frameworks; the Medical Regulation and a new Academy Regulation; which are expected to enhance the professionalism and structure of football operations nationwide.

In another significant development, Asante Twum hinted at the implementation of a performance-based reward systemfor Premier League clubs. Under this new system, clubs will receive financial incentives based on their final position in the league standings at the end of the season.

Looking ahead to the Congress, Asante Twum confirmed that several important proposals and petitions will be tabled for discussion. One of the most talked-about is a petition for the election of a second female member to the Executive Council, who would serve as Second Vice President.

Another high-profile item on the agenda is a proposal to extend term limits for GFA leadership, allowing the President, Vice President, and Executive Council members to serve up to three terms in office.

“It’s one of several petitions submitted by members and forwarded to FIFA Governance. It will be considered at Congress. So it’s not about Kurt Okraku,” Asante Twum clarified. “If approved, the EXCO, Vice President, and President will all be eligible to serve three terms.”

With the GFA Congress just days away, these proposals, if passed, could have a lasting impact on the administrative structure and future direction of Ghana football.
