At the state funeral for victims of the Adansi Akrofuom helicopter crash, the children of the late Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, delivered an emotional tribute.
They expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their father, while celebrating his legacy as a public servant and a loving parent.
“Although we long for the desires of Allah, every day and night, we grieve and yearn to see you back, but you don’t come back,” they said.
They described Murtala’s impact as stretching far beyond the walls of parliament, recalling his tireless advocacy for justice, equality, and the well-being of ordinary Ghanaians.
“Your commitment to justice, equality, and the well-being of the ordinary Ghanaians inspired countless individuals. As your children, we cherish the memories of your kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to our family and communities.”
They acknowledged that while they mourn his “painful exit,” they accept it as the divine will of God.
“If words, admonitions, testimonies, track records, legacies, and friendships intact were to be the givers of life, we wouldn’t be here to meet you. Rest in peace, Daddy. You will forever remain in our hearts.”
The tribute concluded with an emotional prayer:
“May Allah Almighty grant you Jannat ul-Firdaus. Till we meet again, fare thee well, daddy!”
Dr. Murtala Mohammed was among the eight individuals who died in the August 6 crash. The other victims are: Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, former Ashanti Regional Minister and NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Obuasi East parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
The State funeral, attended by President John Mahama, top government officials, security chiefs, religious leaders, and thousands of citizens, is being held to honour the high-profile public servants and military officers who perished in the tragedy.

Two victims, in accordance with Islamic customs, were already buried earlier, while six others will be laid to rest at the Military Cemetery in Tse Addo with full military honours.
