Abronye’s Arrest: Nana B accuses police of hypocrisy, selective justice

NPP National Organiser Nana B has accused the Ghana Police Service of hypocrisy and selective justice, contrasting the swift arrest of Abronye with inaction on threats against party leaders.

The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, widely known as Nana B, has accused the Ghana Police Service of hypocrisy and selective justice in its operations.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Nana B expressed concern over what he described as the police’s failure to act on a complaint lodged by the NPP regarding threats of death made by Chief Sofo Azorka and Alhaji Abdul Wahab during the Akwatia by-election.

The threats were reportedly directed at the Minority Leader, Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Chief Whip, Hon. Annor Dompreh, and Nana B himself.

According to Nana B, the police’s inaction raises serious questions about fairness and impartiality.

He wrote, “It has been almost a week yet the Ghana Police Service has failed to take any action on the NPP’s complaint of threat of death by Chief Sofo Azorka and Alhaji Abdul Wahab during the Akwatia by-elections against the NPP’s Minority Leader Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Annor Dompreh (Chief Whip), and myself.”

He contrasted this with the swift action taken against the Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye. Nana B claimed the police act quickly when dealing with cases involving NPP members but delay when alleged offenders are aligned with the opposition.

He stated, “Strangely, the police have the manpower and resources to pursue and arrest the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, deny him sufficient legal representation, and arraign him before court within 48 hours on misdemeanours while those who have committed felonies walk about freely.”

The NPP National Organiser accused the Police Service of bias, suggesting it has become a tool for political manipulation. “The NPP has cautioned on multiple occasions about the selective justice being meted out by the Ghana Police Service and its seeming bias against the NPP,” he noted.

Nana B urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure the Police Service does not act as a political extension of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“For the sake of the security of this country, the IGP must step up, and the Ghana Police must not allow itself to be used as an extension of the NDC’s unwholesome political machinations,” he cautioned.

He also warned that the NPP would not remain silent in the face of what he called unfairness in the application of justice.

“In the coming days, the NPP shall rise against such wanton display of selective justice, open bias against the NPP, and unfair application of the law. We have a democracy to protect,” he declared.
