The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has disclosed that her ministry is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to arrest the dismissed Assistant Headmaster of KNUST Senior High School, Charles Akwasi Aidoo.
Her comments follow the Ghana Education Service’s (GES) decision to remove Mr. Aidoo from office after a viral video allegedly captured him in a compromising position with a female student.
In a statement dated Monday, September 29, GES described the case as a matter of “utmost seriousness” and barred the assistant headmaster from returning to the school as investigations proceed.
The Service further assured parents and the public that due process would be followed in line with its code of conduct.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, October 1, Dr. Lartey confirmed that the matter had gone beyond GES’s disciplinary measures and was now a criminal issue under police investigation.
The Minister further noted that public awareness of abuse had grown, resulting in more citizens reporting cases.
“We have lots of reports on gender-based violence and then also child abuse. And because of the position of the ministry, we are able to collaborate with the police anytime such issues come up. Of recent is the report of the 13-year-old with the assistant headmaster.
So even though GES through the school dismissed or suspended the head, we are collaborating with the police to effect the arrest of the man, the perpetrator,” she said.
According to her, this vigilance is pushing institutions like the Gender Ministry and its partners to act swiftly.
