President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama have arrived in Beijing, China, to participate in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and UN Women.
The two-day event, scheduled for October 13 and 14, will bring together world leaders to “renew the spirit of the Beijing Declaration and accelerate its implementation.” This year’s gathering also coincides with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which was held in Beijing in 1995.
While in China, President Mahama will champion women’s empowerment and equality while also advancing Sino-Ghanaian relations and investment cooperation.
According to a statement issued by Government Communications Minister and Presidential Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the president will hold bilateral discussions with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, focusing on strengthening economic, trade, and diplomatic partnerships between the two nations.
As part of his official engagements, President Mahama will also meet Chinese business leaders and host a Presidential Investment Forum designed to connect Ghanaian enterprises with Chinese investors and companies interested in opportunities across various sectors in Ghana.
The president’s delegation includes the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, representatives from the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), the Free Zones Authority, and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA). The team will also travel to Fujian Province to meet with businesses already operating in Ghana and explore avenues for expanded cooperation.
Also accompanying the president are Dr Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection; Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Foreign Affairs; Kwame Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways; and Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Deputy Minister for Finance.
Other officials in the delegation include Dr Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President; Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide; Shamima Muslim, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson; and Nana Yaa Gyantuah, Presidential Staffer.
The visit coveys Ghana’s ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality while deepening its long-standing partnership with China in trade, infrastructure, and investment.
