The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) has outlined major steps to boost the sport’s growth following its 2025 General Assembly and Stakeholders Forum held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The meeting reviewed progress made in 2024, including medals won at the 2023 African Games, and focused on expanding regional participation and training more coaches and officials.
The Stakeholders Forum, themed “Promoting Taekwondo as a Preparatory Activity for School Children and a Competitive Sport,” featured representatives from the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), National Sports Authority (NSA), Ghana Education Service (GES), and Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS).
“We need to develop sports in our schools and we want to focus on the development of Taekwondo,” said Obenfo Enoch Nana Kwasi Gyetuah, Executive Director of GNACOPS. “Countries that focus on the sport fall sick less regularly , it’s a medicinal training.”
Key discussions centered on integrating Taekwondo into school programs, building a sustainable talent pipeline, and promoting the sport through marketing and competitions. A committee will soon be formed to create a framework for introducing Taekwondo in private schools, with plans for a dedicated inter-private schools championship.
