Tension gripped the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua on Friday, November 7 as a group of irate youth stormed the facility demanding the immediate transfer of the Medical Director, Dr. Akoto Ampaw.
Calling themselves “The Reset Youth Wing,” the group invaded the hospital premises carrying posters with inscriptions such as, “The Reset Youth Wings Going to Come After You – Go on Transfer Peacefully.”
Their actions were initially resisted by hospital security, resulting in a brief chaotic scene. Despite this, the youth managed to paste posters across several wards and units of the hospital.
According to the group’s leaders, Dr. Akoto Ampaw has refused to comply with a transfer directive issued in March this year, which re-assigned him to the Volta Region. They claim, his continued stay at the facility has displaced the Medical Director from Bolgatanga, who was meant to take over.
Meanwhile, the New Juaben South Constituency chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Selassie Amuzu, condemned and dissociated the party from the act.
He visited the hospital to assure management and staff, urging them to remain calm.
