Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Committee on Defence and Interior, has called on the Ghana Armed Forces to suspend its ongoing military recruitment process following the tragic deaths of potential recruits at El-Wak Stadium.
The call comes after a stampede during the 2025/2026 recruitment exercise on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, left six applicants dead and several others injured.
The incident occurred when a surge of applicants breached security protocols and rushed the gates around 6:20 a.m.
The injured have been rushed to the 37 Military Hospital, where medical teams are working to stabilize them.
In a post on X, Rev. Fordjour expressed condolences and urged immediate action saying, “Sincere condolences to the families of all potential military recruits who have tragically perished in stampede at El Wak Stadium today. The process has to be immediately halted for review in order to prevent further rise in casualties. May the souls of our departed citizens rest in peace!.”
He stressed that halting the recruitment exercise would allow the Ghana Armed Forces to review safety protocols and prevent further loss of life.
The GAF has also extended its deepest sympathies to the families of those who died and wished a speedy recovery to the injured, as authorities continue to manage the situation.
