The Tamale High Court has nullified the December 2024 parliamentary election results for Kpandai, mandating a fresh poll within 30 days.
Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange issued the ruling following a successful petition by National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who challenged the victory of sitting MP Matthew Nyindam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Nsala Wakpal alleged significant irregularities, pointing to inconsistencies in Form 8A — the official “pink sheets” — from 41 of the 152 polling stations in the constituency.
He argued that these breaches violated sections 39 and 43 of the Public Elections Regulations (CI 127) and compromised the integrity of the vote.
The court agreed, ruling that the non-compliance materially affected the election outcome. Justice Plange instructed the Electoral Commission (EC) to organise a transparent rerun across the entire Kpandai constituency.
The December election was marred by tension on the ground, with reports of removed biometric verification devices, destroyed ballots, and confrontations between NDC supporters and security forces at the collation centre.
In his judgment, Justice Plange emphasised the need for the EC to restore public confidence in the electoral process, directing that the new election be conducted within 30 days to determine the legitimate parliamentary representative for Kpandai.
