Performance in Social Studies declined sharply in the 2025 WASSCE, with only 248,538 out of 461,736 candidates (55.82%) achieving grades A1-C6.
WAEC noted, “Table 2 shows fluctuating trends in performance of candidates in all the core subjects over the four-year period,” highlighting a drop in Social Studies results from 71.53% in 2024 to 55.82% in 2025.
The Council assured that results for candidates under investigation for alleged collusion, spanning 185 schools, would be released by the end of December 2025, depending on the outcome of ongoing inquiries.
The weak performance in Social Studies has raised concerns about gaps in civic education and critical thinking among students.
Educators and stakeholders are calling for targeted reforms, enhanced teacher accountability, and more robust learning interventions to address the challenges revealed by the results.
