Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially announced his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
In a statement on Wednesday, February 4, Wontumi, currently serving as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, emphasized that his decision is not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to “strengthen, rebuild, and unify our great party.”
In his statement, he described himself as “a grassroots leader committed to values every member of the party” and pledged to make sacrifices to ensure the party’s success in the 2028 general elections.
“Our party has faced challenges and learned hard lessons along the way. At this critical moment, the NPP demands leadership that is steady, principled, and committed to unity,” he said.
“A leader who is grassroots personified, who values every member from our elders to the youthful allies, and who is willing to make the ultimate sacrifices for the party.”
He assured members that his campaign is focused on restoring confidence within the party and empowering the grassroots, adding, “Together, we will restore confidence, empower our grassroots, and position the NPP to win decisively in 2028. This is our moment to rise, to lead, and to deliver for the NPP. God bless the New Patriotic Party. God bless our democracy. God bless our motherland Ghana.”
Wontumi’s declaration comes as the NPP prepares to elect new national executives following its presidential primary on January 31, 2026, where Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 elections.
Meanwhile, other prominent party figures, including former Energy Minister Boakye Kyeremateng Agyarko and ex-National Chairman Paul Afoko, have also declared their bids for the national chairmanship.
